Tristan Martin (Stephane Bierry) is a 16-year-old runaway who leaves Paris and hitchhikes to Nice with Michele (Florence Moreau), a tough young girl who hangs out with degenerate bikers. Tristan's middle-class parents (Anne Duperey and Michel Aumont) inform the authorities but receive only the feeble assurance that their son will turn up sooner or later, "like a stolen car." Tristan's mother decides to phone newspaperman and old flame Jean (Gerard Depardieu), convincing him that he is Tristan's real father, in the hope that he will offer to find the boy.
