Mastroianni is an exiled European monarch who returns to London after many years away. The area where his mansion is located has become a black ghetto, but Mastroianni is oblivious to his surroundings; he is absorbed in bird-watching. In time Mastroianni notices the plight of his neighbors through his telescope, but he moves into action only after Jones is forced into prostitution.
