The Bumsteads (Singleton and Lake) enter a songwriting contest hoping to win the prize money to cover checks that each has written to the same charity without the other's knowledge. Hale, Lake's boss, is trying to make a real estate deal and wants his employee to soften up the female dealer. Misunderstandings and screwball situations arise and are resolved in the usual fashion.
