A silly musical with Foy as a Marine private pursuing socialite Dunne. He goes to great lengths to win her heart, stealing his captain's uniform and masquerading as an officer. That backfires and he then fakes a shipwreck which ends up in a real shipwreck of Dunne's yacht. And even through all of that Foy gets his girl. Adapted from the 1928 Broadway Musical "Present Arms" (musical numbers directed by Busby Berkeley), the film version is a pale imitation of the original. This was Dunne's screen debut. Songs include: "You Took Advantage of Me," "A Kiss for Cinderella" (Rodgers and Hart), "All My Life," "Careless Kisses," "Evening Star," "Brightly Nice And So Peculiar" (Benny Davis, Harry Akst), and "Shake It Off and Smile" (Sidney Clare, Oscar Levant). leave a comment
