Donat is a village parson who discovers he has only a year to live. He accepts the news calmly, but faces the problem of raising money for his daughter's schooling. She is a talented musician; Donat wants to see her go to school in London. A dying member of Donat's parish wills all his money to Donat to spite his wife. The parson's wife, Walsh, takes some of that money to pay for their daughter's tuition without Donat's knowledge. Donat, who played Mr. Chips in GOODBYE, MR. CHIPS (1939), boosts the weak story with his engaging performance. leave a comment
