Le Boucher

A calculated, slow-paced thriller set in the French countryside, where schoolteacher Audran begins a new assignment. She is soon romanced by the village butcher, Yanne, though she seems more concerned with her schoolchildren than with finding a lover. In the meantime, the village is stricken with random murders. Audran finds herself directly involved when a young girl's body is found near the schoolyard. During a school outing, she and the children take a lunch break and eat their sandwiches outdoors.
