A silly comedy in which Elsom tries to match her son, Drake, with Kennedy, the daughter of a wealthy Texas cattle tycoon. The conniving Elsom hires a couple of unemployed actors, Gordon and Falkenburg, to pose as members of Russian royalty in order to impress the Texans. Madcap romantic misfires occur with nobody marrying the person he was supposed to marry, but, by the finale, everyone emerges unscathed. The picture was originally titled "Let's Have Fun," but that title was conferred on another Bert Gordon starrer released in 1943. Gordon, known as "the Mad Russian," was a popular radio comedian of the time. Some audiences felt that his role name was most appropriate: that the film was a crime and that they were undergoing considerable punishment. Songs include: "Dark Eyes," "Prairie Parade," "Down in the Heat of Smetna," "Gin Rhumba," "He's My Guy" (Larry Marks, Dick Charles). leave a comment
