Laugh And Get Rich

1931, Movie, NR, 72 mins

Set in a boardinghouse, this domestic comedy casts Herbert as Oliver's well-meaning but lazy husband whose get-rich-quick schemes put pressure on their relationship. He steals Oliver's money to invest in oil, but instead makes a killing by backing an invention of his daughter's boy friend. Much of this limp comedy seemed old hat even in 1931. La Cava would go on to make much better, much faster-paced comedies. leave a comment

There are laughs and there are...

There are laughs and there are laughs. Larry walking into the sushi place to loud greetings of "Chicken Teriyaki Boy"? That's a laugh. But Larry's father watching porn so loud it could be heard throughout the whole front hall of the nursing home? That's a laugh. I mean, I'm giggling as I type this. His sweet, old dad with those giant glasses, saying "What? I can't hear it." Truly a classic moment, and one that can be shown only on pay-cable.
