One of the final efforts from one of the great masters of Japanese cinema, LATE AUTUMN was originally made in 1960 but not brought to the US until ten years after Ozu's death. Tsukasa plays the daughter of Hara, a recently widowed woman who finds that her late husband's friends are taking
an extreme interest in seeing her remarried. Hara herself is not so keen on walking down the aisle quite yet, something that shocks men raised in a tradition that has little place for an unattached woman. Eventually Hara does agree to marry, out of a desire to please the insistent elders, but her
ideas of marriage still seem quite obscure to the traditionalists.
