Although Russian-born Sanders was appearing in his ninth film (his fifth in the US), this was the one that made him a star. He plays an Englishman who is recruited to go behind German lines due to his resemblance to a captured bigwig. His job is to masquerade as the German and come back with some important military secrets. Upon his arrival in Germany, Sanders has almost everyone duped by his looks and behavior.
