This Cinderella love story between European skater Ralston (actually a figure-skating star in Czechoslovakia before becoming an actress) and a competitor she meets in America is an excuse for this lavish spectacle of music, song, and dance. When representing her country at a Lake Placid carnival, Ralston is unable to return home due to the outbreak of war. While being taken care of by her wealthy uncle, she falls in love with his junior partner, Livingston. When she discovers that the young man is already engaged to be married, she runs off. But the romance proves true as Livingston follows in pursuit. Songs include: "Deep Purple" (Mitchel Parish, Peter De Rose), "My Isle of Golden Dreams" (Gus Kahn, Walter Blaufuss), "National Emblem March" (E.E. Bagley), "Winter Wonderland" (Dick Smith, Felix Bernard, sung by Roy Rogers), "Intermezzo" (Robert Henning, Heinz Provost), "Waiting for The Robert E. Lee" (L. Wolfe Gilbert, Lewis F. Muir), "When Citrus is in Bloom," "Drigo's Serenade" (Richard Drigo), "While Strolling in the Park" (Robert A. King). leave a comment
