Chatterton plays a woman from Russia married to an aristocratic Englishman, by whom she has a daughter. When the man runs for Parliament, the stuffy family asks Chatterton to leave because her Russian background may prove too eccentric. Years later in Paris, Chatterton meets the daughter she left behind, without the daughter realizing Chatterton is her mother.
