Chatterton plays a woman from Russia married to an aristocratic Englishman, by whom she has a daughter. When the man runs for Parliament, the stuffy family asks Chatterton to leave because her Russian background may prove too eccentric. Years later in Paris, Chatterton meets the daughter
she left behind, without the daughter realizing Chatterton is her mother. The girl finds herself in a predicament not too dissimilar from that of her mother, in that she is in love with a man her father objects to. Chatterton offers the girl some good advice. Chatterton's performance is marred by
her having to strut a phony Russian accent that does not sound in the least convincing...
