Blondell is a riverboat queen who runs her casino with the aid of political boss Wayne. When decadent society man Middleton drops a bundle while gambling, Blondell offers him a proposition--if he marries her, she'll wipe out his debts. It is her way of getting accepted by high society--her
lifelong dream. Middleton's family doesn't take too kindly to her, in fact, they're downright nasty. A nasty old aunt tries to poison Blondell, but Middleton inadvertently drinks the brew and dies. Blondell is charged for the crime, but proven innocent. The tidy wrap-up has her returning to life
on the Mississippi with Wayne. There are several musical numbers, including Blondell ...
