This costly production is more a vehicle for portraying Belita's ice-skating and dancing abilities than it is for presenting a story. Belita is a quick replacement for the dance team of a California resort run by Ellison. Her career skyrockets into stardom, while Ellison loses his job and
drifts around the country until he lands in the Army. Thin story line is glossed over by the entertaining dance and ice-skating numbers, all photographed excellently by Stengler. The score earned an Oscar nomination, as did the song "Silver Shadows and Golden Dreams" (Charles Newman, Lew Pollack).
