La Viaccia

This late 19th-century period piece set in Florence and the nearby countryside centers on the escapades of Belmondo as the son of a struggling farm family. At the start he leaves the farm (entitled "La Viaccia") to go to Florence and live with his wealthy uncle in the hopes of getting on his good side and securing a piece of his will. But once in the city the youthfinds his more passionate nature taking over, and he falls head over heels for prostitute Cardinale. She views Belmondo as only another paying customer, but that doesn't stop the youth from pursuing her.
