1983, Movie, NR, 97 mins

starstarstarstar
A domestic comedy about a boy who is raised by three generations of single women living in a Paris apartment building--his mother, Brigitte Fossey; her mother, Stephanie Audran; and his great-grandmother. Naturally, he is pulled in numerous directions, and as a result life among the Palazzi family turns topsy-turvy. Meanwhile the boy has become enamored of his schoolteacher, while Fossey has become the object of a man's desires, causing Audran to become uneasy. Though the film turns somber by the finale, it is generally upbeat, providing a great deal more entertainment than insight. It is the performances, however, that hold it together, especially Audran (Mrs. Claude Chabrol) and Fossey. Released in France in 1983, the film played in the US in 1985.
