L5: FIRST CITY IN SPACE
starstarstarstar
A 35-minute IMAX 3-D spectacular, L5 is filled with computer-generated outer-space vistas. In the near future, people have begun living in controlled environments in space. Chieko (Rachel Walker) -- the first child born in the floating city L5 -- looks back as an adult and narrates (voice of Martha Henry) first a brief history of space exploration -- the kind that regularly puts high school students to sleep -- then a sappy and terribly rushed little drama. The city's reserves of water are dangerously low, so Chieko's scientist granddad (Colin Fox) cooks up a plan to lasso a comet. Space debris gunks up the remote pod that's supposed to divert the comet to L5, and Chieko's father (Yoshio Mori) has to go off and fix it. Will he make it home in one piece? Rest assured, you can take the kiddies without risking damage to their tender psyches. A state of the art 3-D experience, but not much of a movie. leave a comment
