KNOCKED UP
starstarstarstar
Frustrated TV writer turned red-hot feature-film writer-director Judd Apatow further refines the combination of gross-out frat-boy yucks and chick-flick feelings he first explored in his massively popular but overrated debut, The 40 Year Old Virgin. And while not quite as funny or sweet as the Farrelly brothers at their best (There's Something About Mary, Stuck on You), it's a big improvement. Seth Rogen stars as a likeable schlub who impregnates dream girl (Katherine Heigl) during a drunken one-night stand. Read the complete review for Knocked Up

Producer: Jenna Elfman's Accidentally on Purpose No Knocked Up Knock-Off

Yes, the new Jenna Elfman sitcom Accidentally on Purpose is about a career woman in entertainment journalism who finds herself impregnated by an unsuccessful slacker.

But it's not inspired by Knocked Up, executive producer Claudia Lonow said at Monday's Television Critics Association fall TV tour. In fact, it's based on the real life of Time movie critic Mary Pols, who wrote about her unexpected pregnancy in the memoir Accidentally on Purpose: The True Tale of a Happy Single Mother. read more

Seth Rogen Lashes Out at Katherine Heigl for Hypocritical, "Batsh-- Crazy" Comments

Seth Rogen says Katherine Heigl is a hypocrite for labeling their 2007 hit Knocked Up sexist.

In the January 2008 issue of Vanity Fair, Heigl infamously said that she found the Judd Apatow comedy "a little sexist" because it "paints the women as shrews." But Heigl's latest cinematic offering, The Ugly Truth — in which her morning show producer must endure a series of tests about romance by Gerard Butler's chauvinistic correspondent — doesn't put women in a better light, according to Rogen and Apatow.

Are We Having a Teen Pregnancy Moment?

Have you read this story? Time magazine is reporting that a group of high-school girls in Gloucester, Mass., who are all under the age of 16, made a pact to intentionally get pregnant and raise their children together. I'll let you excavate all the sad details of that situation on your own, but it got me thinking: What has happened that teenagers want to have children? The Today show reported on Friday that teenage pregnancy rates have gone up for the first time in 15 years. Referencing the Time story, they offered a group of experts who offered possible explanations for the intention to get pregnant at such a young age. One proffered that having a baby is akin to having a pet that offers you unconditional love. Another argued that having a baby is the latest fashion accessory, made popular by the media coverage of young, unwed celebrities whose "baby bumps" are all the rage these days.At the box office, Knocked Up wrestled — albeit comically — with the difficulties of be... read more
