Bergen plays the first woman to be elected President, with MacMurray as the spouse who must adapt to his role as "First Man." Their family begins to dissolve, and Bergen is faced with South American dictator Wallach, and other problems, but then--fortunately--has to resign because of
pregnancy. Other than its initial novelty, the story has little to hold it together. Given the material, the direction and performances are competent, though Bergen is miscast. Nominated by the Academy for Best Costume Design.
