This surprisingly sturdy remake of a 1947 film noir classic marked the big-screen debut of NYPD Blue's David Caruso as a leading man; Caruso failed to register as a star, but the film itself is a well-made, violent thriller. Caruso plays Jimmy Kilmartin, a Queens car thief who's busted while helping his cousin (Michael Rapaport) for hulking crime boss Junior Brown (Nicolas Cage).
