Unobjectionable and unexceptional, this hormonal teen comedy is a sort of "African American Graffiti." High school senior Sketch (Jeramie Gladman) and his buddies, Histry (Chason Beau Bridgman) and Random (Chauncey Nichols), face a variety of concerns as they approach graduation. Sketch, who's still a virgin, has a hopeless crush on class beauty Trina (Nicole Pulliam), who's going steady with neglectful class jock Mario (Keely Watson), but rebuffs the mousy Sandra (Nefatitti Mills) by saying he only wants to be her friend. On prom night, Sketch's crew keeps bumping into Trina and her pals, Marcy (Chastity Dotson) and Akita (LaMonica Peters). Volatile Mario expects Trina to tag along with him and his friends, but she'd rather attend a post-prom bash held by Sheila (Jacqueline Thomas). Trina defies Mario, who crashes Sheila's party in search of his errant girlfriend. While Sketch moons over Trina, who seems to enjoy toying with affections, Akita and Histry hook up. Sketch's buddies and Trina's girlfriends hear that some classmates have robbed one of the evening's clambakes, so they decide to chill at a secret blast being held in the school library. Mario orders his friend Crash (Mark Sams-Smith) to summon Trina, who complies, and Sketch switches his attentions to Marcy. But Crash makes unwanted advances, so Trina returns to toying with Sketch. Fickle Sketch doesn't know whom he truly cares for, and it's anyone's guess who'll wind up with whom as the cops seek the prom-night robbers and the senior class keeps hunting for romance. A less randy slice of high-school life than AMERICAN PIE (1999), this look at teens in the throws of puppy love may remind viewers with bittersweet memories of high school dating of a time when every date seemed as intense as Romeo and Juliet's doomed romance. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
