Thrown together by fate, Jim Mason (Adolphe Menjou), a down-and-out onetime racehorse owner, and Goldie (Roger Daniel), a young runaway who has become a stable boy, buy a horse for $2 at an auction. After Jim gives up the bottle, he becomes the horse's trainer and Goldie its jockey, but just when the two become a successful team and inseparable friends, the boy's mother (Dolores Costello) appears and Jim discovers that Goldie is the son he abandoned many years before. Hoping the boy will go back to his mother and the good life, Jim tells Goldie to throw a big race; Goldie, however, has another outcome in mind, and the situation is happily resolved by the film's end. Despite some hard-to-swallow plot points, this is a delightful film and Menjou and Daniel are terrific together. leave a comment
