Hopkins is the daughter of Pichel, a South Dakota senator. He's convinced that New York City is a modern day version of Sodom and/or Gomorrah and heads out East to prove it. While he's arguing with some locals, Hopkins meets Holmes, a high living playboy who's everything her father fears. Of course it's true love for the pair. Holmes is already married to a floozy chorus girl but her convenient suicide makes everything okay. Finally Pichel comes around and all live happily ever after. All this is given the simplest of treatments with character motivation sketchy at best. The dialog lacks the needed bite and any sense of reality is buried beneath the inane plot development. Acting generally is as bad, though Hopkins manages to rise above the senseless material. Holmes is at best ineffective. leave a comment
