Far superior to the 1935 version, this MGM remake has a better feel for suspense, which overcomes some story implausibilities. Barrymore is an elderly woman with an interest in art. Evans is an artist who tricks her into taking him, along with wife Blair and sinister couple Lansbury and
Wynn, into her home. They hold her prisoner in her own home while they proceed to remove her valuable collection of art. Eventually she is able to escape and the villains are captured. Though it starts off a little too slowly, once the film gets going the suspense is maintained. The acting is
excellent, both major and supporting players doing a good job. The photography is also good...
