1948, Movie, NR, 51 mins

After the first and second generations of the "Our Gang" kids grew up, Hal Roach Studios attempted to create a new kiddie-comedy series featuring a group of older kids. This was their feature debut. George Zucco stars as Doc Robbin, a mad scientist with "an atomic firing chamber," who is thought to have been blown up in an explosion that destroyed his mansion. Dan (Kane), the "Mr. Fixit" of the neighborhood, is accused of Doc Robbin's murder and jailed. Dan's pals, a gang of kids, vow to clear their friend and the investigation leads into the haunted remains of Doc Robbin's house. Strictly slapstick, the film pales in comparison with those of the earlier Roach children. Particularly offensive are Beard and King, two small black kids dubbed "Dis" and "Dat." The film moves at the required quick pace (it's only 51 minutes long), but you've seen it all before. leave a comment
