Released in the shadow of much higher-profile adaptations of Jim Thompson's dimestore novels (The Grifter, After Dark, My Sweet), Maggie Greenwald's micro-budgeted film noir actually did a much better job of capturing Thompson's dead-end desperation. In a small New Jersey resort town during the dismal off-season, a bar owner (Jackson Sims) tries to drum up a little buisness by hiring a stripper (Cathy Haase).
