1972, Movie, PG, 97 mins

A Doberman pinscher is accused as the killer of its owner, a recently divorced woman who aroused a lot of community wrath because of her wild ways. Investigator Garner, however, turns up the real reasons for the murder and proves she actually was drowned. The film features cameo appearances in wildly nontype roles by a number of 1940s MGM stars. A good part of the picture was filmed on MGM's old lot number two, home of the Hardy family from the motion-picture company's old "Hardy Family" series. One of the roles went to Ann Rutherford, who had been Mickey Rooney's longtime girl friend, Polly Benedict, in so many films of that series. Studio publicists distributed prerelease photographs of her standing under a banner that read "Welcome Home, Polly." The real shocker was the casting of Allyson, the onetime prototypical cute/pert casting type, as a bisexual killer. leave a comment
