This cute baseball story features Dan Dailey as Larry "Pop" Cooper, an ex-big leaguer reduced to hawking peanuts in the stands while his nine-year-old son, Christy (Billy Chapin), acts as the team's bat boy. With the club mired in a slump, Pop gives Christy some tips to pass on to the manager (Lloyd Bridges), and, when the team starts winning, Whacker (Ray Collins), the owner, promotes the kid to the manager's position, not knowing Pop is really behind the resurgence.
