The Kid From Brooklyn

1946, Movie, NR, 114 mins

Based on the 1936 Harold Lloyd film THE MILKY WAY, THE KID FROM BROOKLYN overcomes its hokey plot with great songs and plenty of style, and the result is a happy amalgam of nonsense and laughter. Danny Kaye plays Burleigh Sullivan, a wimpy milkman who inadvertently becomes a champion prizefighter. Although the premise is patently absurd, Kaye's intricate performance pulls it off with good humor and verve. The songs were performed by everyone but Kaye, save for "Pavlova," a ballet satire written especially for him by Max Liebman and Sylvia Fine, Kaye's wife. leave a comment
