Based on the 1936 Harold Lloyd film THE MILKY WAY, THE KID FROM BROOKLYN overcomes its hokey plot with great songs and plenty of style, and the result is a happy amalgam of nonsense and laughter. Danny Kaye plays Burleigh Sullivan, a wimpy milkman who inadvertently becomes a champion
prizefighter. Although the premise is patently absurd, Kaye's intricate performance pulls it off with good humor and verve. The songs were performed by everyone but Kaye, save for "Pavlova," a ballet satire written especially for him by Max Liebman and Sylvia Fine, Kaye's wife.
