Working-class steelworker McCrea marries rich girl Mackaill. He has saved two people in a factory accident, so the boss invites him for dinner. The boss' daughter is impressed and decides she'll land him in a month's time. After the marriage McCrea becomes the man of the title as his wife's
extravagances easily eat away at his salary and his ego. But he wins back his self-esteem and her respect by the end as they agree to live on his salary alone. Somewhat dull and rather witless, this film reflects the typical chauvinism of the era.
