Comedy duo Wheeler and Woolsey are a pair of out-of-work magicians, who adopt McFarland ("Spanky" from the Our Gang comedies). It turns out the kid is a missing heir, so it's off to Kentucky for the happy trio, to cash in on the loot. Instead they find themselves in the middle of a family feud and all the Southern stereotyped humor the filmmakers can muster. McFarland steals the show as only movie brats can. Despite the talent behind the writing (Kalmar and Ruby did some of the best material for the Marx Brothers), there's really not much to this comedy. The direction is fast-paced though, covering the plot holes and giving the illusion that something funny actually is taking place. The film's two Kalmar and Ruby songs are "One Little Kiss" and "Supper Song." leave a comment
