McCormack appeared two years earlier in Mervyn LeRoy's THE BAD SEED as a rotten vermin of a child. In KATHY O' she plays a similar role, as an insolent child star "loved by millions, yet loved by no one." When she refuses to be bossed around by studio publicist Duryea, he nearly has to bribe her to do an interview with his ex-wife, columnist Sterling.
