An interesting but not entirely successful story that revels in the juxtaposition of time through flashbacks and flash-forwards (as well as a combination of the two). The coquettish Bujold is the one doing the reminiscing as a 45-year-old dame (what a sin it is to cover that face with
makeup) sitting bedside with her dying hubby. She thinks about her first husband, whom she plotted to kill with her new, more passionate love (the dying second husband). The title comes from the small village where their chance meeting occurred, followed by their treacherous plotting. (In French;
English subtitles.)
