Grieving over his wife's death, dedicated cop Dooley (Jim Belushi) devotes himself to busting lawbreakers with Jerry, a trained police dog. Although both are in a middle-aged slump, their longtime partnership is tested when Dooley gets attacked at an ATM machine by a thug in body armor. We later learn that the mysterious assailant was Devon Lane (Wade Andrew Williams), a disgruntled crime novelist, whose work Dooley disparaged. Because paunchy Dooley is no match for Devon, Capt. Byers (James Handy) teams him with aggressive female detective Welles (Christine Tucci) and her dazzling Doberman, Zeus. After Dooley futilely investigates a convict he once busted, the dogs get him back on track by sniffing out Devon's storage locker. The room yields Devon's identity, and one of his manuscripts reveals that he intends to make Dooley suffer for his words. Before he pens the final chapter, Devon invades the precinct and takes Welles hostage. A series of silly riffs about man's best friend, this puppy chow sequel to K-9 is an inconsequential action comedy with almost no plot to speak of. Although Devon's demented behavior seems like strong stuff for kiddie fare, his stalker storyline is neutered, leaving viewers with a limp series of stupid pet tricks, doggie flatulence jokes, and stale love-hate arguments between the leads. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
