Highly personal film about teenage Lesley's struggle to move past a suicide attempt. Told frequently in flashbacks, the story shows events that lead up to the attempt, including conflicts with her father, mother, sister, and boy friend, culminating in an impulsive marriage to Neill, an
aspiring poet. Lesley becomes what she had hoped to escape, an echo of her loud and overbearing father. The audience is left to wonder whether her problems are really environmental or self-inflicted or perhaps a bit of both.
