This supposedly liberated romantic comedy, set on Manhattan's Lower East Side, revolves around the wacky complications that ensue when a horny fireman tries to pressure his unwilling fiancáe into a three-way with another woman before they get married. Is that a laugh riot or what? Macho Anthony (Lane Janger, who also directed, co-wrote and produced) swears to Amy (Joelle Carter) that she'd only have to do it once; this is his fantasy, he pleads, so why won't she do it to make him happy? The set-up recalls the erotic thriller TROIS, but the movie quickly takes off in another direction. Tired of Anthony's badgering, Amy agrees to his request, but with a proviso: Anthony must agree to fulfill her secret fantasy as well. He gets his tongue back into his mouth just long enough to say yes, then discovers that she wants him to have sex with their sweet, sexually inexperienced neighbor, Victor (Guillermo Diaz), who's in the thrall of a heavy-duty crush on Anthony. Anthony tries weasel out on his promise, while the disgusted Amy appeals to the expertise of another neighbor, Michelle (Jennifer Esposito), on the matter of lesbian dalliances. Why an apparently well-adjusted lesbian like Michelle would waste one minute of her time on the problems of opportunistic straight people like Amy and Anthony is anyone's guess, but it all devolves into a fine how-dee-do, especially two sets of intrusive in-laws-to-be are added into the mix. Expanded from a short film that Janger made in 1997, this labored farce relies on an unpleasant collection of stereotypes for its comic effects, and Janger is a singularly unappealing leading man. Supporting players Diaz and Esposito steal the movie right out from under Janger and Carter, but that's an accomplishment in only a relative sense. leave a comment --Maitland McDonagh
