Chevalier plays a happy-go-lucky hobo who inherits a large sum of money, which changes his life from rags to riches. But he learns that he must also become executor of the estate, a role he disdains. Unfortunately, the other two co-heirs, Wall and Marken, cannot claim their part of the inheritance unless Chevalier claims his. They set about changing his mind and, in the process, a fourth heir is discovered. She is Norman, who is greatly in need of the money. The film ends with Chevalier, disgusted at what he views as the wasted lives of the rich, setting up a rest camp for hoboes and returning to life on the road. Though Chevalier manages to convey some charm, he is ill at ease in his role as the bum. Clumsy direction and a poor script mar any hopes of this being a convincing farce. leave a comment
