JUST BEFORE DAWN is a crushing disappointment from director Jeff Lieberman, whose SQUIRM (1976) and BLUE SUNSHINE (1977) were two of the more interesting genre efforts of the 1970s. A group of teenagers ignore the wise words of an Oregon forest ranger played by George Kennedy and venture into the woods after dark--just as they weren't supposed to do. Their disobedience results in an encounter with a pair of mutant twins who stalk their victims and slice them with machetes. This direct rip-off of THE HILLS HAVE EYES (1977) has nothing going for it. Actor Chris Lemmon is the son of Jack Lemmon; red-headed actress Jamie Rose would go on to star in the short-lived TV series "Lady Blue." leave a comment
