Oakie is a dumb oaf with ambitions to become a Tin Pan Alley lyricist. He meets the usual pitfalls along the way, but girl friend Dee helps her man out. The screenplay unwisely shifted this Kaufman-Lardner comedy from satire to romance and the result is disappointing. There are some good laughs but the story is largely unrealistic. Oakie and his pals are unconvincing as street characters and the direction misses more often than it hits. Besides the title tune, there's also the song "Montana Moon." Remade in 1937 as BLONDE TROUBLE. leave a comment
