Writer-director Jeff Stanzler has made a stunning feature debut with JUMPIN' AT THE BONEYARD. This moving and dark tale of the trickle-down effect of drug abuse rings true with a resonance not often seen in contemporary American cinema.
Manny (Tim Roth), an unemployed Irish-American, is awakened in his Bronx apartment early one morning when he hears two intruders rummaging around the kitchen. Armed with a baseball bat, he confronts them, only to discover his younger brother, Danny (Alex Arquette), a ravaged crack addict, and his
junkie girlfriend, Jeanette (Danitra Vance). After a violent confrontation, Manny spends a frenzied, anguished, and ultimately deadly day attempting to get his brother straightened out.
JUMPIN' AT THE BONEYARD is bleak, scary and utterly real--refusing to allow viewers to be complacent about an increasingly ubiquitous social affliction. Its limited theatrical release was perhaps inevitable, but it should find a lasting audience in the video marketplace. leave a comment
