We are asked to believe the impossible here--that the voluptuous Loren is a Jewish victim of Nazi oppression, seeking noble retribution from her missing Nazi husband in Israel. It's the troubled year of 1947 and Palestine is about to erupt into race war, but is still a British protectorate. Finch, a leader of the Jewish underground paramilitary organization, Haganah, learns that Verner, a Nazi war criminal, is training an Arab legion to attack the newly formed Jewish state. Finch smuggles Loren into the country, she being Verner's ex-wife and full of hate for her husband. He had denounced her as a Jewess during the war and had her thrown into a concentration camp with their young son. The boy is still missing and Loren is desperate to find him. Finch is just as desperate to locate Verner for the information he can provide. Loren and Finch work together and sometimes against each other to track down Verner, while chaos brews around them. This film is nothing more than a showcase for Loren, who is gorgeous, but it does little to illuminate the Israeli cause, which was handled better in EXODUS and CAST A GIANT SHADOW. The expert lensing by Wilcox does provide some striking visuals. leave a comment
