The Judge

1949, Movie, NR, 69 mins

Thin and tenuous thriller about infidelity, murder, and courtroom intrigue. Stone is a lawyer who finds out that wife DeMille is cheating on him. He clears Guilfoyle of a murder charge and uses him for his own nefarious purposes. He arranges for DeMille and her lover, Waxman, to be killed, but the plan backfires with Stone ending up the corpse. The two lovers look guilty and Waxman kills himself, leaving DeMille destitute. Unable to live with the guilt, the real killer confesses to the crime. Though it has its moments, THE JUDGE is hampered by pursuing too many tangents. At times it runs too long, making potentially suspenseful scenes dull and tedious. The acting is all right but nothing out of the ordinary for B crime films. leave a comment
