This is one of Republic studios' biggest films. But even its terrific cast and enormous budget cannot conceal the overgrown B western lurking beneath. It takes place along a wagon train from New Orleans to California, and the myriad characters are restricted to a few intertwining stories. Leslie marries Russell, much to the chagrin of his older brother, Middleton. After settling in Los Angeles, Leslie has a baby, and when her husband is killed, Middleton tries to steal the baby but is finally killed by the drunken doctor, O'Brien.
