An excellent combination of witty scripting and fine acting resulting in grand adventure.
James Mason plays Oliver Lindenbrook, an Edinburgh geologist who travels with student Alec McEwen (Pat Boone) to Iceland as part of a planned descent to the center of the earth via volcano. There, they meet Carla (Arlene Dahl), whose husband has been killed in a similar attempt. She joins the
expedition, along with a young Icelander (Peter Ronson) and his pet duck. They begin the descent, imperiled by prehistoric beasts, rock slides, and the evil Count Saknussemm (Thayer David), who murdered Carla's husband and is determined to be the first to reach the earth's core.
