Hayden is a New England minister who loses his faith and leaves his church when his alcoholic wife commits suicide. Wandering out West, he ends up on skid row, where he meets Donath, a preacher who, with his blind daughter (Lindfors), runs a mission for down-and-outers. Without revealing
his past, Hayden takes a janitorial job in the mission and helps bring some of the skid row denizens into church services. When Lindfors is hurt in an accident, Hayden has a spiritual rebirth, returning to the pulpit. Finding a new purpose in life, he stays with the mission and marries Lindfors.
The film is hampered by a verbose script and a tendency to preach to the audience. But ...
