This compact, fast-moving film stars Chatterton as the wife of the unfaithful Menjou. In a fit of jealous rage, she goes backstage at the theater where his actress mistress, Dodd, is in a play. The scorned femme shoots Dodd and escapes, and the blame for the crime falls on the shoulders of a fugitive who is hiding in the theater from another crime. Her crime of passion gains her nothing, however, as Menjou grows to hate her for her deed. Guilt finally consumes Chatterton, and she decides to go to the police and confess. En route to the station she is hit by a car and loses her memory of the murder. Menjou softens in his feelings, and the movie ends with his love for his wife restored. Though the plot is somewhat weak in parts, this picture is unusual in that most movies of this period contained the inviolate rule that all crime must be paid for. leave a comment
