Restless college professor Taylor takes his three children (Scott, Seflinger, and Wheeler) to the Florida Everglades, where he intends to teach Seminole Indians. Shocked by the backward conditions on the Indian reservation, Taylor protests to local health official Brooks, but to no avail.
Everett enters the story as a halfbreed who saves Scott from a herd of stampeding buffalo. Noting that Everett has the respect of the other Indian children, Taylor enlists his help in getting the children to attend school. He is rebuked until Everett falls for Scott and begins attending school
