Johnny Doesn't Live Here Any More

1944, Movie, NR, 77 mins

Amusing little farce that opens with Terry being inducted into the Army. When his friend Simon needs a place to stay, he gives her the keys to his apartment, forgetting one minor detail: a set of keys belongs to almost every one of his male friends, who use his apartment for their own amusements. Nice-guy Ellison is one of the key-holders and Simon falls in love with him along the way. Good performances, a creative script, and a jaunty directional style make this a fun little comedy. Don't miss an early appearance by Mitchum. This film was reissued several years later and renamed AND SO THEY WERE MARRIED (not to be confused with the 1936 film of the same title), due to Mitchum's quick success. Also his name was moved up to an above-the-title billing, alongside Simon, even though he only appears in the final reel. leave a comment
