Tracey is in the title role as a young Seminole Indian who has mixed emotions about the white world in which he lives. He finally achieves satisfaction and some recognition as a professional alligator wrestler. Tracey's performance is sensitive, likable, and thoroughly believable, but his fine acting ability is far outweighed by the negative aspects of this film. The real issue of white dealings with Native Americans is treated simplistically in manner, dividing the white world into "the good guys" and "the bad guys." Montalban is laughable as an old Indian chief dispensing contradictory advice to the young men on how to deal with whites. The alligator sequence, although nicely put together, is backed with music that is unashamedly derivative of the JAWS score. leave a comment
